Julie Dirksen, a learning strategist with Usable Learning, is a consultant and instructional designer with more than 15 years’ experience creating highly interactive eLearning experiences for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to technology startups to grant-funded research initiatives. She’s interested in using neuroscience, change management, and persuasive technology to promote sustainable long-term learning and behavior change. Her MS degree in instructional systems technology is from Indiana University, and she’s been an adjunct faculty member at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She is the author of Design For How People Learn.
Dr. Karl Kapp has a worldwide reputation as a pioneer in the gamification of learning and instruction, having literally written the book on the topic. Karl is an expert in the convergence of learning, technology, and business. He was named one of LinkedIn's Top Voices in Education in 2017 and is the recipient of the 2019 ATD Individual Contributor Award. He works all over the world with Fortune 100 companies as well as start-up organizations helping them deliver meaningful instruction using a game-thinking approach. Karl is the author of several LinkedIn Learning courses and creator of several popular learning card games.
Mousumi Saha is a customer/technical training advisor for Dell Technologies. She is responsible for designing and developing server training programs. She has more than 10 years of experience in learning and development. She holds a M. Tech degree in computer science and engineering with VLSI specialization. She is highly passionate about designing learning strategy for adults and exploring advanced learning technology.
Donald H Taylor is the Chair of the Learning and Performance Institute, and the Learning Technologies Conference in London, Berlin and Singapore. He has been involved in workplace learning and learning technology since the 1980s, and has an honorary doctorate from Middlesex University in recognition of his work developing the Learning and Development (L&D) profession. Donald delivers talks and workshops internationally around the future of L&D, and is widely published. The author of Learning Technologies in the Workplace (Kogan Page, 2017), he has produced the annual L&D Global Sentiment Survey since 2014, and contributes the monthly opening column to Training Journal magazine.
Phil leads innovation at Salesforce.com and is the former Chief Digital Officer at the Institute of Transformational Learning at the University of Texas System. With a 25+ year career and C-Suite roles that have led innovation, transformation and technology, Phil is a highly social, entrepreneurial, and award-winning senior executive with unique insights into learning and emerging technologies. Experienced as a C-level executive within higher education that has leveraged entrepreneurial instincts, a broad technical skillset, and a strong reputation for developing and motivating teams at all levels, Phil has consistently helped businesses integrate new technologies to create values for organizations.
Alex Banks is the head of sales for Vyond, whose cloud-based video creation platform is in use by thousands of sales and eLearning professionals around the world. Alex joined the Vyond leadership team after two decades of international sales experience with various software, hardware, and business intelligence firms like Comscore, Inc. and The Economist Group. Alex is passionate about driving Vyond's salesforce to be more agile and effective, and has dedicated his career to helping companies embrace technology to improve their business.
As GP Strategies' chief learning and innovation officer, Matt Donovan brings more than 25 years of experience. Throughout his career, he has helped support a wide range of Global Fortune 500 companies through significant transformation initiatives. Not only has he been recognized through industry awards, his articles are regularly published and presented at a variety of national and international conferences. He has an MS in instructional systems technology from Indiana University.
David Kelly is the executive vice president and executive director of The Learning Guild. David has been a learning and performance consultant and training director for more than 15 years. He is a leading voice exploring how technology can be used to enhance training, education, learning, and organizational performance. David is an active member of the learning community and can frequently be found speaking at industry events. He has contributed to organizations including ATD, eLearn Magazine, LINGOs, and more. David is also known for his curation efforts, especially related to conferences and events for learning and performance professionals.
With more than 15 years of experience in the learning technology industry —including product, customer success and people management—Abby Miles knows what it takes to build productive and engaged teams. As senior director of people, she combines that expertise with her passion for people to lead OpenSesame's recruiting, training, DEI, and employee experience initiatives.
John Sangimino is a Senior Expert with McKinsey & Company’s Learning Design and Development Center of Excellence (COE). He works with McKinsey’s industry and functional groups to develop learning strategies and solutions that drive deep performance change. John also leads the COE-extended team charged with scaling the reach of quality learning design across the organization. He has more than 25 years of experience designing and developing learning, with deep interest and experience in simulation architectures and situated solutions.
Megan Torrance is CEO and founder of TorranceLearning, which helps organizations connect learning strategy to design, development, data, and ultimately performance. Megan has over 25 years of experience in learning design, deployment, and consulting. Megan and the TorranceLearning team are passionate about sharing what works in learning, so they devote considerable time to teaching and sharing about agile project management for learning experience design and, of course, the Experience API (xAPI). TorranceLearning hosts the xAPI Learning Cohort, a free, virtual 12-week learning-by-doing opportunity where teams form on the fly and create proof-of-concept xAPI projects.
Ben Betts is chief product officer for Learning Pool, a global leader in learning technology. His role at Learning Pool is to define and develop the next generation of workplace digital learning platforms, with a focus on learning experience platforms and the learning analytics space.
Prior to Learning Pool, Ben helped to build HT2 Labs from humble beginnings into a globally recognized innovator in workplace digital learning. Ben's expertise is based in research; he completed his PhD researching the impact of gamification on adult social learning. Ben has authored and contributed chapters for many books, has two peer-reviewed academic papers, and has presented at conferences around the world, including TEDx.
Nick Floro, a co-founder and learning architect at Sealworks Interactive Studios, has over 25 years of experience developing learning solutions, applications, and web platforms. Nick is passionate about how design and technology can enhance learning and loves to share his knowledge and experience to teach, inspire and motivate. As a learning architect, Nick gets to sketch, imagine, and prototype for each challenge. He has worked with start-ups to Fortune 500 companies to help them understand the technology and develop innovative solutions to support their audiences. Nick has won numerous awards from Apple and organizations for productions and services, and has been able to reach over a million users with his latest project, which helps students in grades 2 - 12 learn how to think and write an essay critically.
Karen Kocher is the global general manager of talent & learning experiences for Microsoft. She was previously the chief learning officer of Cigna where she was responsible for capability development and maximization for all of CIGNA’s global employees, as well as external audiences including producers, health care professionals, customers, and clients. Karen has over 15 years’ experience managing learning and development functions within Fortune 250 companies. In addition to roles leading education organizations, Karen’s background includes technical and sales positions within the insurance and financial
services industries.
Bob Mosher, the chief learning evangelist at APPLY Synergies, has been an active and influential leader in the learning and training industry for over 30 years, and is renowned worldwide for his pioneering role in eLearning and new approaches to learning. Before co-founding APPLY Synergies consultancy with Conrad Gottfredson, Bob served as the chief learning evangelist for Ontuitive, director of learning strategy and evangelism for Microsoft, and executive director of education for Element K. He is an influential voice in the IT training industry, speaking at conferences and participating in industry associations. Bob was awarded the Guild Master Award in 2014 for his accomplishments and contributions to the eLearning community.
Mark Smith is the vice president of global human resources at Petroleum Geo-Services in Oslo, Norway. He is responsible for offshore learning programs, infrastructure, and recruiting strategy and implementation. Mark has led organization change initiatives at PGS for over 12 years. He has extensive experience and expertise in developing and leading fast-paced HR teams and talent management processes in Norwegian and international professional service firms such as Aibel, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and McKinsey & Company. Mark earned his BA in fine arts from the Atlanta College of Art, and his master of science degree from Pratt Institute.

Matthew Smith is a partner and chief learning officer at McKinsey & Company. He is responsible for developing the firm’s learning and development strategy and for the execution of L&D programs for more than 29,000 colleagues globally.
Prior to his current role, he served as chief of staff to McKinsey’s global managing partner and spent 10 years as a consultant and leader in McKinsey’s organization and pharmaceutical & medical products practices. He sits on the firm’s global partner-election committee.
Matt has published several articles on organizational and talent topics, including in Harvard Business Review and the McKinsey Quarterly. He served as senior faculty for McKinsey’s Change Leaders Forum program, where he brought his research and experience in change management to senior executives across sectors. He was the research director for the recently published book Talent Wins: The New Playbook for Putting People First (Harvard Business Review Press, 2018).
Gloria leads the Associate Dean and Managing Director of Professional Learning at Minerva Project. She oversees the strategy, development, and implementation of Minerva’s partnerships in executive education. With her background in Neuroscience, Gloria is a thought leader on learning innovation and the science of learning. She leads the design and development of Minerva’s professional learning portfolio. Previously, Gloria was Executive Director at Yale School of Management, working with Fortune500 companies on consumer insights, brand management and customer experience. She was also the Head of Global Onboard Learning at McKinsey, after spending 7 years as a management consultant, advising over a dozen C-suites and institutional leaders on their company strategy and organizational transformation.
Jane Bozarth, the director of research for The Learning Guild, is a veteran classroom trainer who transitioned to eLearning in the late 1990s and has never looked back. In her previous job as leader of the State of North Carolina’s award-winning eLearning program, Jane specialized in finding low-cost ways of providing online training solutions. She is the author of several books, including eLearning Solutions on a Shoestring, Social Media for Trainers, and Show Your Work: The Payoffs and How-To's of Working Out Loud. Jane holds a doctorate in training and development and was awarded the Guild Master Award in 2013 for her accomplishments and contributions to the eLearning community.
Jake Gittleson is a Senior Expert in Learning Design for McKinsey & Company. In this role, Jake leads McKinsey Learning’s Research and Innovation Lab and also supports the design for the firm’s pre-partner learning programs. He specializes in helping teams uncover the ‘why’ and imagine the “what if” in areas of learning design, experience, performance, and learning technology. Through research and experimentation, Jake strives to support better learning experiences and empower intentional learners, so colleagues can continue to flourish and achieve their learning goals. In addition to Jake’s everyday role, he co-hostsThe Learning Geeks Podcastand most recently served as the Planning Committee Chair of 2020’s ATD’s Techknowledge Conference.
Vidya Krishnan is the head of competence and capability consulting and education for Ericsson North America. She has the responsibility and a deep passion for transforming how Ericsson creates the capability for its customers and their workforces. Vidya has over 20 years of experience in the telecom and IT industry, spanning AT&T, Nortel, and Ericsson. She holds a BS degree from Princeton and an MS degree from Stanford in electrical engineering, with a specialization in sustainability. She and her team are dedicated to transforming how, where, and when effective learning takes place in a networked society.
Hadiya Nuriddin is the owner of Duets Learning. She has nearly 20 years' experience in learning and development. She specializes in instructional design and development for both corporate and academic environments. She has extensive experience in designing, developing, and delivering both technical and professional development courses. She also designs and develops eLearning courses. Hadiya is the author of the book StoryTraining: Selecting and Shaping Stories That Connect. Hadiya has an MEd in curriculum design, an MA in writing, and a BA in English. Tomissa Smittendorf leads a high-performance sales L&D team that focuses on the commercial capabilities needed to be best-in-class. Tomissa is seen as having a transformation drive with a make-it-happen spirit. She ties learning to business solutions and consults with leaders to understand and overcome business challenges. Her ability to demonstrate a holistic view of the business comes from 30 years of CPG experience and having worked in retail sales, supply chain, sales, finance, customer service, HR, and DSD. She previously served as director of mid-tenure learning for the firm.
Before joining McKinsey, Lisa was the senior vice president of implementation for Socratic Arts, where she led the design and development of custom learning programs for clients, including F100 global organizations, non-profit organizations, and the US military. Lisa has deep experience in a variety of learning modalities and approaches but specializes in blended learning, performance support, knowledge management strategies, and immersive simulation design.
Lisa is an accomplished facilitator and author. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international law and diplomacy and a master’s degree in organizational management.
Conrad A. Gottfredson, the chief learning strategist at APPLY Synergies, has deep experience in organizational learning, collaborative development, knowledge management, online learning, performance support, and instructional design and development. Conrad is the original developer of the Learning at the Five Moments of Need framework now in use around the world. He has worked with many of the world’s largest organizations, helping them attain higher levels of learning agility. Conrad’s experience includes the design and deployment of large-scale knowledge management and performance support systems within multinational corporations. In 2014 Conrad was awarded the Guild Master Award for his accomplishments and contributions to the eLearning community. He holds a PhD in instructional psychology and technology.
Manoj Kulkarni leads all aspects of Realizeit's commercial development and operations in the US and Europe. He has held senior executive roles for more than 15 years, providing transformational leadership in high volume, global businesses in education, technology, and retail sectors. Manoj is the former CTO for Career Education Corporation where he pioneered the implementation of predictive analytics-based personalized learning across large-scale ground and online institutions. Prior, he was the VP of IT at Toys R Us Inc. Manoj earned his bachelor's in engineering from India's College of Engineering, and masters in BA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
With over 25 years of experience in corporate learning, Nigel Paine is a regular speaker, writer and broadcaster on the topics of development, technology and leadership. Between 2002 and 2006 he headed up the BBC’s Learning and Development operation. Following this, he started his own company nigelpaine.com Ltd that is focused on building great workplaces. He has written three recent books, presents a monthly TV program (Learning Now TV), and shares a weekly podcast (with Martin Couzins) called "From Scratch".
Sravani Tammiraju is a product owner for tech onboarding solutions at Visa. She was a software engineer-turned-L&D-professional by way of an MBA from Boston University. During her time in business school, she lead the first ever Boston-wide Diversity & Inclusion conference. Sravani is a member of the Learning 2019 Class of Thirty Under 30. You can find her case study in ATD’s Designing for Modern Learning book that launched earlier this year. She has been a board member for Junior Achievement since 2019.
Rob Garris serves as Managing Director for Leadership Development at Trinity Church Wall Street. He is responsible for the development of the Trinity Leadership Initiative (TLI), a global collaborative network of partners that will offer leadership development programs combining the inspiration of faith with the practical skills leaders need to be effective in the world. The TLI will bring together mission-driven lay leaders and clergy, train them to gather and empower communities for a changing world, and network them into a global cohort for leadership learning. Rob has built innovative international education programs at universities and foundations for more than twenty years, working for Schwarzman Scholars (a new leadership development program in China), the Rockefeller Foundation, Columbia University, and John’s Hopkins School of International Affairs. Rob received his PhD in History from the University of North Carolina, where he specialized in immigration and urban policy.
